I started the New Year riding my bicycle, vaguely needing to urinate. I had hoped to have a paying fare in my pedicab at the stroke of midnight, helping to justify working instead of going on an all-night social bike ride to start the new decade.
Both the bladder fullness and lack of fares were cured a few minutes into 2010. I've continued with the biking, too: we pedicabbed the Cotton Bowl 1/2 and add on a Cowboys-Eagles game today.
Saturday was slow, but Sunday's improved. Or at least until my first ride post-halftime: 4 people + off-roading = my seat post breaking in half. I burn more than half an hour on a trip back to the spare bike / truck / hotel before figuring out the obvious solution: move my remaining chunk of seat post up, slide the hitch down, get used to standing, and remember that attempts to sit down will be met with bizarre anal pain.
So I ride the out crowd standing, seatless, to over $100 post-breakdown. Not big money, but this couples with drastically lowered living expenses and lots of previous pedicabbing to create a bit more buffer before Bikes Across Borders.
